Now many drum washing machines have down jacket washing mode, but when you throw them in to wash, you find that they are far less clean than you imagined, or the down is clumped, and they are not as comfortable to wear after washing.
In fact, if you want to use a drum washing machine to wash down jackets, there are some additional operations before and after washing, not just throwing them in and washing them.
If you want to wash down jackets fluffy and clean, I personally recommend following 5 steps.
1. Pretreatment of down jackets
Before putting them in a drum washing machine for washing, it is best to pretreat the down jackets first, preferably with a special down jacket detergent. If you don't have it on hand, ordinary laundry detergent or white vinegar can also be mentioned.
During the pretreatment process, it is best to put them in warm water with a maximum temperature of no more than 40 degrees, and mainly wash and rub the collar, cuffs, hem and other easily dirty places by hand, which drum washing machines cannot always take care of.
After all, the cleaning principle of the drum washing machine is similar to the beating cleaning of clothes. It can be roughly cleaned, but the details are missing, so pretreatment is very important.
2. Choose the right cleaning mode
When washing down jackets with a drum washing machine, it is also very important to choose the right cleaning mode. At least do not use the standard and quick wash modes.
In the standard and quick wash modes, the speed of the drum will become faster, which will cause greater damage to the down jackets and are more likely to cause problems such as down drilling and hardening.
It is best to use the two modes of down washing and gentle washing, which can not only wash clean but also cause less damage to the down jackets.
3. It is best to wash single pieces
Down jackets are different from other clothes. It is best not to add too many clothes. If the clothes in the drum washing machine are too full, it will easily affect the effect of beating and cleaning, and at the same time increase the friction and damage of other clothes to the down jackets.
Some people are afraid that a single small down jacket is not heavy enough to wash and the drum cannot turn. In fact, if you have pretreated it, the weight of the down jacket in a semi-wet state is completely sufficient, so there is no need to worry.
In addition, if you are afraid of the down clumping, you can also add a few laundry balls or tennis balls to help break up the down jacket during the washing process, so that it will be more even and fluffy after washing.
4. Pat after washing
After washing, the general drum washing machine will perform slow spin drying. At this time, remember not to wring it dry, which will greatly damage the down and fabric and cause the down core to break.
After the drum washing machine spins dry, basically only a small amount of water stains remain. If it is an old-fashioned drum washing machine, the spin drying force is not enough and there is dripping. Hang it up and use a basin to catch it, and don't rush to twist or spin it manually.
When it stops dripping, you should pat it gently to help the down restore its fluffyness. You can use your hands or a small wooden board. As long as the surface is smooth and the contact area is large enough, it will be OK.
5. Dry in reverse and avoid exposure to the sun
Finally, if you have a dryer, you can directly dry it at low temperature. It will take a little longer, but you can basically wear it directly after drying. It is still recommended to dry it individually, and don't be impatient to use high-temperature mode to dry it. Down is particularly easy to deform and lose its insulation effect.
If you don't have a dryer, don't worry. Turn the sleeves and lapels of the down jacket upside down to dry it. Especially for black down jackets, it is necessary to dry it in reverse.
First, it can prevent the down jacket from stinking and dry it more thoroughly.
Second, it can also protect the color and prevent the surface of the down jacket from fading.
Third, it can keep the down jacket fluffy. After drying, turn it over and it will be as clean as new.
In short, if you want to use a drum washing machine to wash the down jacket, the above 5 steps are crucial. I advise everyone not to take it lightly. Follow the steps. The down jacket will naturally be clean and fluffy after washing!
